.gy Domain Registration FAQ

Individuals, businesses and organisations from Guyana or another country can register an available .gy domain through an accredited registrar. The registrant must provide accurate contact information, accept the applicable policies and avoid names or uses that violate registry rules or the rights of others.

No. Standard .gy registration has no residency requirement. A registrant can be located in Guyana or internationally, provided the registration information is accurate and the selected extension is eligible for that registrant.

Common options include .gy, .co.gy, .com.gy, .net.gy and .org.gy. The .edu.gy extension is reserved for accredited educational institutions operating within Guyana, while .gov.gy is reserved for official Government of Guyana entities and is handled through the appropriate government process.

There is no general limit on the number of domain names a registrant can hold. Businesses can register several company, product, campaign or brand-protection domains, subject to availability and applicable policy.

A .gy domain can be registered for a term from one to ten years. The selected term and total charge are shown before payment.

You can begin the registration before obtaining nameservers. A domain normally needs at least two valid nameservers before it can be fully delegated and used for a website or email. Revamped GY can also provide supported DNS or hosting options.

Eligible registrations paid by card or another automatically confirmed method are submitted to the registry immediately and commonly become active within seconds. MMG, bank transfer, cheque, cash or other confirmation-based payments are processed after the payment is verified.

Standard registration currently costs GYD $6,500 per domain per year through Revamped GY. The same standard annual price applies to normal renewal unless a different charge is shown for an exceptional registry status or optional service.

Revamped GY treats one-character names such as a.gy or 1.gy as premium domains. The current premium charge is GYD $130,000 and is added to the normal registration cost. The full amount is shown before payment.

Available methods can include card, Mobile Money Guyana (MMG), supported cryptocurrency, local or international bank transfer, cheque and cash. The options shown at checkout take precedence for the individual order.

Card and other automatically confirmed methods can trigger immediate registry submission when the domain is eligible. Confirmation-based payments activate only after Revamped GY verifies the payment.

Domain registrations, renewals and registry actions are generally non-refundable after they have been submitted or completed because the registry service has already been provisioned. Review the domain spelling, extension, term and registrant details before paying.

The approved registrant listed for the domain is the domain holder. The registrar manages the registration on the registrant’s behalf but does not become the owner simply because the domain is held in the registrar account.

A business should use accurate company or authorised registrant information and keep the controlling account, email address and renewal responsibility under company supervision. Personal details should not be substituted where that would make ownership unclear.

Yes, when the current registrant or authorised registrar submits the required request and the change satisfies the registry and registrar procedures. A registrant change is separate from an ordinary registrar transfer.

WHOIS can show registry information such as the domain, status, registrar, nameservers and relevant dates. The exact public fields depend on registry policy, privacy settings and the type of registrant.

Optional WHOIS privacy currently costs GYD $1,000 per eligible domain. Privacy can reduce the public exposure of supported contact information but does not change the registrant’s legal or contractual ownership.

No. The domain name, status, registrar, nameservers and relevant registry dates can remain visible. Privacy applies only to supported registrant contact fields and remains subject to lawful requests, policy and registry requirements.

Unlock the domain at the current registrar, obtain the valid transfer authorisation code and start the transfer using the Revamped GY transfer form. The registrant or authorised domain manager must be able to approve the action.

The current Revamped GY transfer charge is GYD $2,000 per eligible domain. The transfer moves registrar management and does not automatically extend the existing registration period unless a separate renewal is selected and shown.

Registrar lock is a security status that helps prevent unauthorised transfers. A domain normally must be unlocked before a transfer can proceed, then locked again after the transfer is completed.

Open My Domains, choose the eligible renewal action, select the term and complete payment. Standard renewal currently costs GYD $6,500 per year. Eligible domains can also use card-based automatic renewal when it is enabled and the payment succeeds.

The website, email or other services can stop working, and the domain can move through expiry, grace, redemption or deletion stages. The action shown in My Domains depends on the live registry status. Renew as soon as possible because recovery is not guaranteed indefinitely.

A grace period is a limited stage after normal expiry during which the registry may still permit renewal. Availability, service behaviour and charges depend on the current registry status, so the live domain controls should be checked immediately.

Redemption is a later recovery stage after ordinary renewal has passed. Restoration can require registrar assistance, an additional registry action and a separate restoration charge. The domain is not recovered until the registry confirms completion.

Renewal and expiry notices are sent according to the account and service notification settings. Registrants should still monitor My Domains, maintain a current email address and assign responsibility for renewal rather than relying on one reminder channel.

Nameservers identify the authoritative DNS provider for the domain. They direct internet resolvers to the provider that stores the records for the website, email and other services. A .gy domain normally requires at least two valid nameservers.

Yes. Open My Domains, choose the domain and enter the exact nameservers supplied by Cloudflare, cPanel hosting or another DNS provider. Recreate website and email records at the new provider before changing delegation.

Managed DNS provides a record editor for an eligible domain. It can be used to create and maintain supported A, AAAA, CNAME, MX and TXT records without moving DNS management to an unrelated provider.

A records point to IPv4 addresses, AAAA records point to IPv6 addresses and CNAME records create hostname aliases. Use the exact values supplied by the website or hosting provider.

MX records direct incoming mail. TXT or CNAME records are commonly used for SPF, DKIM, provider verification and other email-authentication settings. Incorrect or missing mail records can interrupt delivery.

Some DNS changes appear quickly while cached answers can remain for several hours. Nameserver changes can take longer than individual record changes. Timing depends on the previous TTL values and resolver caches.

DNSSEC adds cryptographic signatures that allow compatible resolvers to validate DNS responses. The keys at the authoritative DNS provider and the DS information published through the registrar must match.

A stale, missing or incorrect DS record can make validating resolvers reject the domain’s DNS answers. DNSSEC must be updated in the correct sequence when changing nameservers or DNS providers.

No. Domain registration reserves and delegates the name. Website hosting is a separate service. Revamped GY offers cPanel hosting, or you can connect the domain to another supported hosting provider.

Yes. Replace the domain nameservers with those assigned by Cloudflare or the hosting provider, or keep the current DNS provider and point the required records to the external service.

No. Professional email hosting is separate from the domain registration. After purchasing or connecting an email service, configure the required MX, SPF, DKIM and verification records.

Yes. Once an email hosting plan is connected, you can create supported company, staff or department addresses using your domain. Mailbox limits and storage depend on the selected email package.

Supported forwarding can send messages received at a domain address to another mailbox. Forwarding does not necessarily provide storage, an inbox or reliable outbound sending from that address.

Yes. You can register the domain first and add hosting, professional email, Managed DNS or other supported services later from the Revamped GY account.

The Revamped GY reseller programme is coming soon. Suitable agencies, hosting providers, developers and technology businesses can register interest now, but live reseller access and client orders are not yet available.

Custom retail pricing is planned for approved resellers. Final reseller costs, minimums, margin rules and commercial terms will be published before applications are approved.

The planned model will allow approved resellers to choose how they collect payment from clients, subject to the final dashboard capabilities, funding rules, payment terms and reseller agreement.

The client or other approved registrant should be recorded as the domain holder. The reseller manages the registration and support relationship but should not replace the true registrant with its own details unless it is genuinely the registrant.

Planned controls include registrations, renewals, nameservers, transfers, billing coordination and related domain actions. The final feature set will be confirmed before launch.
