Questions about .gy domains

Individuals, businesses and organisations in Guyana or abroad can register an available .gy domain. The registrant must give accurate contact details and must not use a name that breaks registry rules or someone else's rights.

No. There is no residency requirement for .gy, .co.gy, .com.gy, .net.gy or .org.gy.

We sell .gy, .co.gy, .com.gy, .net.gy, .org.gy and .edu.gy online. .edu.gy is for educational institutions in Guyana. .gov.gy is for Government of Guyana bodies and is issued by the National Data Management Authority (NDMA): contact NDMA to register one.

There is no general limit. Businesses often register their company name on several extensions, plus product or campaign names, subject to availability.

From one to ten years. The term and the total are shown in the basket before you pay. Longer terms cost less: you save 5% on 2 years and 10% on 3 years or more.

No. New domains are set up on our managed DNS, so they work straight away and you can add records for a website or email in My Domains. You can change to other nameservers at any time.

A domain paid by card or MMG goes to the registry straight away and is usually active within a minute. With bank transfer, cheque, cash or crypto, we register it as soon as the payment is confirmed.

Every extension we sell online costs GYD $7,000 a year, and renewals cost the same. Domains already registered with us at GYD $6,500 keep renewing at GYD $6,500 a year for as long as they stay with us. Longer terms cost less: you save 5% on 2 years and 10% on 3 years or more.

Premium names are one- and two-character names, such as a.gy or 7g.gy, and any name the registry marks as premium. A premium name costs GYD $130,000 a year on top of the normal yearly price. The total is shown before you pay, and our team approves each premium order before it is registered.

By card, MMG, bank transfer, cheque, cash, Bitcoin, USDC, USDT or Ethereum. You can also choose Hold My Order and Contact Me to Pay, and we will contact you to arrange payment. The methods shown at checkout apply to your order.

Card and MMG payments are confirmed automatically, so the domain goes to the registry straight away. Other methods register the domain once we confirm the payment.

No. A name is not reserved until it is paid for, so someone else could register it first.

No. Your Revamped account is created at checkout, and you can sign in with an emailed link or a password afterwards.

The registrant named on the domain holds it. We manage the registration for the registrant; holding it in our system does not make us the owner.

Yes. Use the company's details as the registrant and keep the account email and renewals under the company's control, so ownership stays clear when staff change.

Yes, when the current registrant asks and the change meets the registry's rules. A change of registrant is separate from a transfer between registrars. Contact us to arrange it.

A WHOIS or RDAP lookup shows the domain, its status, the registrar, the nameservers and its key dates. Which contact details appear depends on registry policy and on whether privacy is on.

Domain privacy costs GYD $1,000 a year. It hides your name, address and phone number in public lookups. It does not change who owns the domain. You can switch it off in My Domains at any time at no charge.

No. The domain name, status, registrar, nameservers and dates stay public. Privacy covers the registrant's contact details only and does not stop lawful requests for them.

Ask your current registrar to unlock the domain and give you its transfer authorisation code, then enter the domain and code on our transfer page and pay at checkout.

A transfer costs GYD $7,000 and includes one year: the registry adds a year to the expiry date when the transfer completes.

A lock that stops the domain being transferred without the registrant. It must be off at the old registrar for a transfer. We turn it on for every domain registered or transferred here.

Open My Domains, choose Renew, pick the term and pay. Renewal costs GYD $7,000 a year. You can also turn on automatic renewal by card, and we charge it 14 days before expiry.

We email you 30, 14, 7, 3 and 1 days before your domain expires, and again if it expires. Each reminder has a renew link. Keep your account email current and note the expiry date yourself as well.

Its website and email can stop working. If your domain has expired, you can still renew it at the normal yearly price while the registry allows. There is no late fee. Recovery is not possible for ever, so renew as soon as you can.

A later stage after expiry, when ordinary renewal is no longer possible. If a domain passes into the registry's redemption period, our team handles restoring it. Contact us as soon as you can. After redemption the registry releases the name and anyone can register it.

Nameservers tell the internet which DNS service holds the records for your domain. A .gy domain needs at least two.

New domains are set up on our DNS automatically. In My Domains you can add and edit A, AAAA, CNAME, MX and TXT records and set up URL and email forwarding, without moving the domain anywhere else.

Yes. In My Domains, enter the nameservers your host or DNS provider gives you. Copy your website and email records to the new provider first so nothing stops working.

A records point to an IPv4 address, AAAA records to an IPv6 address and CNAME records to another hostname. Use the values your web host gives you.

MX records receive mail. TXT records hold SPF, DKIM and verification settings. Missing or wrong mail records can stop email arriving or make it look like spam.

Record changes often show within minutes, but some networks keep old answers for a few hours. Nameserver changes can take longer.

DNSSEC signs your DNS answers so resolvers can check they are genuine. The keys at your DNS provider and the DS record held at the registry must match. You can manage DS records in My Domains.

A DS record that no longer matches the DNS provider's keys makes checking resolvers reject the domain. Remove or update the DS record before you change DNS provider.

No. Hosting is a separate service. We offer cPanel hosting, with GYD $1,000 off the first year when you buy it with a new domain, or you can point the domain at any other host.

Email forwarding is included on managed DNS. Mailboxes at your domain are a separate service. Our business email starts from GYD $7,500 a year, with GYD $1,000 off the first year when you buy it with a new domain.

Yes. Either change the nameservers to the ones they give you, or keep our DNS and add the records they ask for.

Forwarding passes mail sent to your domain address on to another inbox, such as Gmail. It does not store mail or send from your domain address. A mailbox does both.

Yes. Register the domain first and add hosting or email from My Domains whenever you are ready.

The reseller programme is not open yet. Agencies, hosting providers and developers can register interest now, and we will contact them when it opens.

That is the plan. Reseller costs, minimums and terms will be published before any application is approved.

The client. The client should be the registrant; the reseller manages the domain and the support relationship.
