Look up a .gy domain
See who manages a .gy domain, its status, its key dates and its nameservers, straight from the registry.
WHOIS Lookup
Search and view information for .gy domains and supported extensions: .gy, .co.gy, .com.gy, .net.gy, .org.gy, .edu.gy, .gov.gy.
Looking for a name to register? Search and register checks availability and the price in one step.
Reading the result
A lookup shows whether the name is registered. The registration search has the final word on whether you can buy it.
- No record found
- The name may be free. Search for it to confirm availability and the price.
- Registered
- Someone holds it. The result shows the registrar, status and dates. If it is yours, you can transfer it to us.
- Reserved or restricted
- Some names need approval. Ask us what is possible. .gov.gy names are issued by NDMA: contact NDMA.
- No answer
- Check the spelling and extension and try again. If the registry still does not answer, tell us.
What the record shows
Records differ from domain to domain. These are the parts worth checking before you register, renew or transfer.
- Status
- Conditions set by the registry or registrar, such as a transfer lock. One domain can have several.
- Registrar
- The company that manages the registration for the registrant.
- Dates
- When the domain was created and last updated, and when the current paid term ends.
- Nameservers
- The DNS service the domain points to. They show where DNS is held, not every record.
- Contacts
- Only the contact details that registry policy and privacy settings allow the public to see.
- DNSSEC
- Whether a DS record is published. It does not prove that DNSSEC checks pass.
- DNS records and raw data
- The public DNS answers for the domain and the registry's unformatted reply.
Ownership and privacy
The registrant holds the domain. Privacy changes what the public sees, not who owns it.
- The registrant is the domain holder, whatever the lookup shows
- Domain privacy, GYD $1,000 a year, hides your name, address and phone number in public lookups
- The domain, registrar, nameservers, status and dates stay public
- Privacy does not stop lawful requests for the registrant's details
A lookup cannot change a record. To correct your own details, sign in to My Domains or contact us.
After a lookup
What to do next depends on whether the name is free, registered elsewhere or already with us.
- It is free
- Register it for GYD $7,000 a year. Search and register
- It is yours, elsewhere
- Move it to us for GYD $7,000, including a year. Transfer guide
- It is already with us
- Renew it, change nameservers or add email. Open My Domains
- It needs DNS work
- Point it at a website or email provider. DNS guide
Questions about WHOIS
Something not covered here? Contact us.
What is a .gy WHOIS lookup?
A .gy WHOIS lookup queries registry information for a domain and can show whether the name is registered together with available status, registrar, date, nameserver and DNSSEC information.
Does WHOIS prove that a domain is available to register?
WHOIS is an important availability indicator, but the live registration search and final registry response determine whether a domain can be registered. Reserved, restricted, premium or pending names can require additional handling.
Which Guyana domain extensions can I check?
The tool supports .gy, .co.gy, .com.gy, .net.gy, .org.gy, .edu.gy and .gov.gy lookups. Registration eligibility can differ by extension, especially for education and government namespaces.
Why are some registrant details hidden?
Registry policy, privacy protection and data-protection requirements can limit which contact details are displayed publicly. Hidden public information does not mean the domain has no registrant.
What do domain status codes mean?
Status codes describe registry or registrar conditions such as active delegation, transfer protection, update restrictions, expiry or other lifecycle states. Several codes can apply to one domain at the same time.
What is the difference between the creation date and expiry date?
The creation date shows when the domain registration was first created. The expiry date shows the end of the current paid registration term, subject to renewal, registry processing and lifecycle rules.
What do nameservers in WHOIS mean?
Nameservers identify the authoritative DNS provider for the domain. They do not show every DNS record, website server or email setting, but they indicate where DNS is delegated.
Can WHOIS show whether DNSSEC is enabled?
The lookup can show DNSSEC or DS information when the registry makes it available. Valid DNSSEC also depends on matching signatures at the authoritative DNS provider.
Can I transfer a registered .gy domain after looking it up?
An eligible domain can be transferred with the registrant’s authorisation, an unlocked status and a valid transfer code. WHOIS information helps identify the current registrar and status but does not replace transfer approval.
What should I do if the WHOIS result looks incorrect?
Refresh the lookup and compare it with the live domain controls or authoritative registry information. The registrant or authorised manager should contact the current registrar when dates, nameservers, status or ownership information needs investigation.
